Has anyone else seen it yet? Anyone else as disappointed with it as I am? Of course, I didn't like the remake of War of the Worlds, and there was too much of what I didn't like in that in this. Then there were some other things I didn't like.
Don't get me wrong. It had some great scenes even still, and it had some awesome special effects, but special effects aren't everything to me. It could have been so much better.
I like the previous X-men movies, and I had thought I'l like this one too. It didn't turn out that way.
Sorry, I'm not trying to spoil the movie for anyone who hasn't seen it. I just wanted to tell someone how disappointed I was with it.

"Oh my stars and garders!" Nightwolf. Well I too was disappointed with the script.
Wolverine and Storm had some horrible lines. As well they should have used other characters more. The plot was good, but very poorly written.
Did you stick around for after the credits? There was a terrible bit of redemtion there. Though I did like the Beast Character. Kelsey Grammer did a well enough job. As well the fact that Ian McKellan brought the idea of never entering Natzi German ideology again was good for me, he played that up.
Though the script could have developed a little more.

I liked beast too. That was one of the things I did like about the movie. I didn't stay around for the end credits. I was just too disgusted and disappointed. I heard from some one else too that they had a scene at the end the had some foreshadowing and possible redemption going on, but still...
I've decided to just continue to wait for Pirates of the Caribbean 2 to come out and hopefully make up for x3's disappointments. I like the first one, and this one looks good too. However, I've learned my lesson with this movie. Just because a sequel looks good and it's predecessors were good, doesn't mean it will be too.

I liked it just fine. It brought back memories of things I'd forgotten about the series, like how powerful Pheonix really was. Wish I'd known about the thing after the credits, but the scene with the chess board was pretty powerful too. I also wish a few of the characters had bigger roles in it, but there are just so many who haven't even made it into the movies, like Gambit (whose name was slipped into a list on a computer screen in the second movie). I was glad to see Archangel, and surprised that Kitty Pride actually got as big a part as she did.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised about Kitty too. I've wanted to see Gambit since the first movie. I hear though that he is definetly in the fourth film. I wonder who they'll get to play him? I did like gambit, and I wonder if Iceman and Kitty will stay together and then Rogue and Gamit can get together.

They should have me play Gambit. Just cause I could be a cocky, funny, cajun shrimp!

I liked it myself. But there is a trick to it. As with any Action film, you have to go into it expecting the script to play second fiddle to, naturally, Action. Applying a little logic beforehand can help prepare you.
Take one guy who can generate magnetic fields and manipulate metal (any metal, including non-ferrous ones that otherwise don't respond to magnetic fields). Add to that a couple of über-teeps, a woman who has absolute control of the weather, and a guy who has metal grafted to his entire skeleton. Now, stuff it all into a scant, two-hour timeframe and what do you get?
A times like that, you give your left brain some vacation time, lower the bar, and enjoy the ride.
The "problem" with X3 isn't that it is sub-standard; it's that it followed two predecessors that were, UNCOMMONLY well though out.

The plot isn't really the thing that bothered my about X3. It was just how Phoenix chose to kill a lot of people. The whole disintegration thing I didn't like. I didn't like it in the remake of War of the Worlds either. I hated it. It bothered me more, honestly, than the fact that they killed off three main chars in one movie. If Phoenix had killed those people another way, I would have enjoyed the movie more despite it's other problems. I know that doesn't bother a lot of other people in this movie or in War of the Worlds. It bothered me though. I really hated it. The rest didn't really bother me near as much. Infact, if they had just done that part differently, I might have really like the movie.
There were parts that I did enjoy. Wolverine did not let me down, and the part of him walking up the and Phoenix continuously healing was pretty darn cool. So, were some other parts. The whole denigration thing just killed the movie for me. I never did have a chance to read the comics, so if that is really what Dark Phoenix was like, I'm sorry. I still didn't like it. I also still don't like the War of the Worlds movie partially for the same reason.
Maybe I'm not as much of an action movie person as I thought I was. The whole disintegration thing made me feel ill inside. I don't enjoy walking out of a movie in disgust or feeling ill. X3 did that to me, mainly because of the disintegration thing on people. I didn't care when it was done to non living material, just people it bothered me. There were other reasons, but that was the big one. It looks like it just me since a lot of other people weren't bothered by that at all and were able to enjoy the film.
I'll just skip that one and move on to X4. I'll also continue to look forward to Pirates of the Caribbean 2 to make up for X3 for me. Oh, is anyone else thinking they might want to see The Lake House? It looks like it might be an interesting chick flick. I understand guys if you aren't interested in that, not enough of a death toll I know. I'm sure I was alone with kind of wanting a wedding scene in X3 between two of the main chars. I'm a hopeless romantic. I also don't see why there can't be romance in an action movie. Mr. and Mrs. Smith for an example, perhaps not the best.
Interestingly enough, I had just finished Path of Neo before watching X3. So in case any of you were thinking it was the death toll that might have really bothered me instead of the method of death, think again. There are just certain methods of death I never wanted to see or envision. Nor would I wish them on my worsted enemy.
Also, I had seen Spiderman recently too. So, the thoughts of "With great power comes great responsibility", and "Power corrupts" kept crossing my mind whenever I saw the Phoenix. These lead to thoughts of "Boy, Phoenix is corrupt." I know, I know I have issues. That's why I'm bleeding them out on the spam forum. Unlike Beamer I can't be thick skinned enough to be bothered more about weak plot than certain forms of death I find too hideous and soul sucking to enjoy the rest of the film. I suppose I haven't been desensitized to enough violence for that, which in some respects might not be a bad thing.
I don't expect the rest of you to be the same or to join in my displeasure. It's just nice to talk about it to someone, even someone or someones who don't share my same opinion or reaction. It gives me more hope for X4. Please forgive my meanderings.

Now that you mention it, disintegrations always do that to me as well. War of the Worlds (I'm talking the original movie, not the Tom Cruise remake [which I haven't seen]) gave me nightmares for a whole year the first time I saw it. The worst, though were the partial disintegrations in Spaced Invaders and Mars Attacks. *Shudder* I hated those movies.
As for X3, I think it didn't bother me as much because I've seen too many Replicators die. I don't know if you are a Stargate SG-1 fan; but if you aren't, the Replicators are robots composed of a collective of tiny "blocks" that are held together by fields of Qirion particles. Replicators can rearrange themselves into anything they need to from creepy little spider-like drones the size of a house cat to spaceships with hyperdrives capable of traversing the intergalactic void in a matter of hours.
But I digress. When they die, Replicators collapse into their component blocks, leaving behind piles of what look more like chrome Legos than anything else.
Of course, with Replicators, undamaged blocks can reassemble themselves...

When you put it that way, I guess it did bother me the way she killed people. Not only that, but Magneto's wanton disregard for human (and mutant) lives was sickening. However, they didn't bother me enough to not like the movie. Though I'm not really a chick flick person (haven't even heard about The Lake House), and I hate sappy movies, I normally rate a movie pretty high if it makes me cry. Perhaps it's just my attachment to Patrick Stewart as an actor, but I could empathize with even Magneto's regret at losing Xavier.
As for Scott, I hear that the surprising thing isn't that he died in the movie, but rather that he had time to film for it at all, because of time conflicts with Superman coming up. Patrick Stewart is supposedly going to start filming for a new Star Trek movie soon, which might have affected the screenplay as well.
Nightcrawler was also supposedly written into the script, but the part was so small he decided he'd rather not deal with putting on that much make-up again.
