You catch a glimpse of an elf with an arrow trained on you and manage to rein in your horse before he fires.
(You act first)

I accuse the elf of banditry and declare my enmity for such with an oath to spill his entrails on the altar of Justice.
I declare my oath of enmity against him and move to attack. I strike with a hooking motion and use overwhelming strike, shifting a square into the cover of the forest while dragging him into the open space I just vacated.
<Crunch> Overwhelming strike: 25 v. AC (CRIT) for 22 damage. I shift a square into the woods for some cover. He slides into the square I vacated.

Scratch one Elf. That's 125 exp.
You ride on until nightfall without further mishap. You are now just 4 days' ride from the coast.

I stop to rest my horse, then keep going. I want to put another day's distance between myself and trouble before I spend a lot of time resting.

Your horse starts to get balky some time after midnight, but continues until morning without giving you too much grief. You seem to have outrun any pursuit.

By midday, your horse is balking and trying to bite, shying at every bush. Finally, he spooks himself and takes off down the road with you. Roll athletics.

Your foot slips from the stirrup and you land in the dirt. You are uninjured, though still pretty tired. Your horse continues running down the road.
